This week Infinity Ward released an INTENSE update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and it may possibly be the biggest update yet with new game modes, skins, weapons, map changes, and huge Warzone updates.

"The Haunting of Verdansk", this week's Halloween themed Call of Duty update is one of the biggest we've had in recent months. It's also the first holiday themed update we have gotten so far, and it accomplishes the spooky theme of Halloween fantastically.
“As Halloween draws near, a squad of operators drops in for what seems to be a normal infiltration into Verdansk… though there’s been back-channel chatter about some unexplained and odd occurrences across the remote areas of the map. Operators have been briefed about reports concerning a serial killer who wears his victim’s faces on his own. There’s scattered intel about strange sounds emanating from various locations within the warzone; and not least the piercing, creepy laugher of a ventriloquist doll…..”
James Mattone says on Call of Duty's official website.
What's New?
This week's update contains an intense amount of new content. One of the first eye catching things is the game-changing visual changes that were added to the game. When logging into the game, it plays a graphic with lighting striking, revealing the name of the update, "The Haunting of Verdansk", with a large Jack-O'-Lantern underneath it. This is the first real change we've had to the visuals of the game, so it really showed how much work they put into this update.
The biggest part of the update comes with the changes made to Warzone, the free to play battle royale mode of the game. The update comes with two new Warzone modes: Trick or Trios and Zombie Royale. Trick or Trios is essentially the same as the normal Trios mode from the base game, except the map is now set in a nighttime setting instead of the day like normal. Zombie Royale is where the real changes come. Normally whenever you die in Warzone, you are sent to the Gulag where you have a chance to defeat another player and return to the game. In the new zombie mode, when the player dies they return to the battle as a zombie with a few unique powers. In order to return to the battle, the player must then collect two syringes, which are dropped by dead players. While they are in zombie form, they can attack other players, and even help their teammates.
Some of the other changes are smaller, but are there to essentially complete the Halloween theme. Now, whenever players open chests around the map, there is a possibility that they will be jump-scared when opening the chest. The jump scares are more shocking than anything, and I personally can say that the first time it happened to me I screamed into my headset out of fear. The point is, Infinity Ward knew what they were doing when they came up with this idea.
One of the biggest appeals of the Warzone battle royale game mode of Modern Warfare is, of course, that it is free. However, one of their money makers is the in-game shop with bundles of Operator skins, weapon blueprints, etc. People who like to purchase Operator skins in the shop are going to have a field day with this update, because it has brought us some of the most unique Operators to date.
The first Operator added is the famed Leatherface from the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" film series. He wears one of his victims faces as a mask, as long as wearing a bloodied apron. His bundle contains a light machine gun blueprint that strongly resembles a chainsaw, as well as a few other "Texas Chainsaw" themed items. The second is Billy the Puppet, the famous puppet used by the ventriloquist serial killer Jigsaw in the "Saw" movies. He wears a black suit with his iconic clown-like puppet face from the film series. The bundle comes with two unique weapon blueprints, a Cargo Truck Vehicle Skin, plus a few more "Saw" themed items.
There are a few more halloween themed bundles in the shop, and more confirmed to be coming in the future, so make sure to pick those up if you are a fan of anything horror themed.
I was very impressed with this update, and seeing the amount of work Infinity Ward put into it has made me very excited for what is to come in the future for this game. I can't wait to jump back into the now zombie infested city that is Verdansk and experience some of the new features until the end of update.
Happy Halloween!
I enjoyed reading this blog very much as it update me on all the recent additions to Modern Warfare. I enjoyed how everything is very straight-forward and easy to understand. I have not heard about the new Halloween-themed items, but now I will definitely be checking those out as "Saw" is one of my favorite horror franchises, and the new items sound like a lot of fun to use. The new game modes also sound very interesting, and I will definitely be playing those as soon as possible. Those post definitively helped inform me about the new update without an overwhelming amount of information.
This blog was very attention grabbing because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is by far one of my favorite games to play and this update has brought so much to the table. With the new added operators like Billy and Leatherface, along with the jump-scares, it seems that Infinity Ward has truly mastered their take on a Halloween themed game mode. I liked how you were able to put the new features of Warzone into great detail by describing your first experience with a jump-scare and by also putting into perspective how much of a more eerie feel the entire game gives off.
